Takayama Jinya is a well-preserved historical government building located in the heart of Takayama, Gifu Prefecture. It served as the local administrative office of the Tokugawa shogunate from the late 17th century until the Meiji Restoration. The complex includes official rooms, magistrates’ offices, storehouses, and a traditional courtyard. Visitors can see original tatami rooms, wooden corridors, and exhibits showing how officials governed the region. Today, Takayama Jinya is one of the few remaining jinya in Japan and offers a clear insight into Edo-period administration and daily life.
