About :

The Atacama Desert is located in northern Chile and is one of the driest regions on Earth. It features high-altitude plateaus, salt flats, and minimal vegetation. The Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA) is situated on the Chajnantor Plateau at about 5,000 meters above sea level. ALMA is an international radio astronomy observatory used to study the universe at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths. The dry atmosphere and high elevation make the Atacama Desert ideal for astronomical observations.
