Fort Louvois is a 17th-century fortification, built by Vauban on an islet in the middle of the Pertuis Breton, facing the town of Bourcefranc-le-Chapus in the département of Charente-Maritime, France. The fort stands at the entrance to the Charente River. It replaced a smaller castle constructed on the same islet in the 11th century. Originally an inaccessible rocky islet, Louvois was encircled with a dry stone wall under the orders of Louis XIV and became a military defensive post for the arsenal located in Rochefort, 750 metres (0.47 mi) upstream on the opposite bank of the river.
A stone causeway leads to a small island with a stone tower, under a partly cloudy sky, with construction vehicles and people present.
