Imam Husayn Shrine is a major religious complex located in the center of Karbala. The shrine marks the burial place of Husayn ibn Ali, who was killed during the Battle of Karbala. Its architecture is characterized by a large golden dome, multiple minarets, and wide courtyards designed to accommodate large numbers of pilgrims. The shrine complex is surrounded by religious schools, markets, hotels, and pilgrim facilities that form the central urban area of Karbala. Nearby stands the Al-Abbas Shrine, located several hundred meters away along a large ceremonial avenue. During major religious occasions such as Arbaeen and Ashura, millions of visitors travel to Karbala to participate in commemorations. From elevated views across the city, the golden dome and minarets of the shrine dominate the skyline. The surrounding city has expanded significantly in recent decades due to religious tourism and infrastructure development.
