The Mt Maunganui Surf Lifesaving Club building has been marked with a red sticker following last week's landslide. The Tauranga City Council issued the placard under the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act, indicating the building cannot be used until it is deemed safe.
Geotech experts are regularly assessing the stability of the site, and the red sticker may be downgraded if the immediate risk is reduced. The club was evacuated immediately after the landslide, with members working to relocate equipment on the beach under the guidance of emergency response teams and local iwi.
The operation received full support from the Tauranga City Council, NZ police, and local iwi. The club aims to continue training activities once safety assessments are completed and the building is deemed safe for use again.
