Homes evacuated after gas leak in Taupō

A police car was seen behind a cordon as officers attended the incident. Emergency services are evacuating properties in Taupō after a digger hit a gas line. The rupture happened in the suburb of Wharewaka shortly after midday.

A police spokesperson said residents in Harakeke Drive, Wharewaka Road, and Lake Terrace are being asked to leave because of leaking gas. The public is asked to avoid the area while authorities handle the situation.
