Former Inner Mongolia Party Chief and Veterans Minister Probed for Corruption

A former top official in Inner Mongolia and a significant figure in China’s veterans’ affairs is being investigated for suspected corruption. Sun Shaocheng, who served as the region’s party chief from 2022 to 2025 and later held a semi-retired role in the National People's Congress, is now under scrutiny by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

The investigation follows probes into high-ranking military officials Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli. It highlights China's ongoing anti-corruption efforts, which have expanded to include both political and military figures. Sun’s downfall comes shortly after his predecessor in Inner Mongolia, Wang Lixia, faced a corruption investigation last summer.

Sun’s career in veteran affairs began in 1999 when he led the Bureau of Preferential Treatment and Resettlement under the Ministry of Civil Affairs. His work has been crucial in shaping China's systems for supporting former military personnel.
