In the early hours of January 18, residents of Kurmin Wali, Kaduna State, Nigeria, experienced a terrifying day as armed gunmen launched a mass kidnapping.

The Attack Details:

Armed with AK47 rifles, the bandits stormed into the village, breaking down doors and forcing locals out of their homes. They targeted churches and private homes, abducting over 177 people. Families were torn apart as loved ones were taken from each other's grasp.

The Escape and Aftermath:

Among those abducted was Maigirma Shekarau, who managed to escape with his three-year-old daughter after a daring escape into an abandoned village. However, the majority of Kurmin Wali remains captive, leaving the community in despair.

The Government Response:

Initial denials from state officials were met with skepticism. After two days, the police confirmed the incident and launched rescue operations, but the villagers feel their safety is still at risk. The presence of security forces has not reassured them, as they believe the police are only compiling names rather than providing protection.

Residents like Jummai Idris and Panchan Madami have decided to leave the village, fearing further attacks and insecurity. The government's plan to establish a military post is not enough for them, as they remain on edge and await the return of their loved ones.
