A technical malfunction caused simultaneous failures in the 400-kilovolt line between Romania and Moldova as well as the 750-kilovolt line between western and central Ukraine on Saturday, leading to widespread power outages. This incident led to the shutdown of Kyiv's metro network and disrupted water supplies in the capital city.
Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal reported the malfunction and stated that power would be restored within the next few hours. President Volodymyr Zelensky called the situation an emergency, with restoration efforts underway to stabilize the power supply soon.
