Drone Strikes in Ethiopia’s Tigray Kill One

A recent incident of drone strikes in Ethiopia’s Tigray region has resulted in one fatality and injuries to another individual. The strikes targeted two Isuzu trucks near Enticho and Gendebta, areas about 20 kilometers apart. Senior officials and humanitarian workers confirmed the incidents, attributing them to the Ethiopian National Defence Force, though no evidence was provided.

The trucks were initially reported to be carrying food and cooking items, but pro-government activists claimed they were transporting weapons. This development has reignited fears of renewed conflict between regional forces and the federal government. Tensions have been escalating over the deployment of Amhara and Eritrean troops in Tigray, which violates a peace deal signed in November 2022.

Additionally, Tigray faces a severe humanitarian crisis following last year’s US aid cuts, affecting up to 80% of the population. The African Union has urged all parties to exercise restraint and resolve disputes through constructive dialogue to preserve the hard-won gains from the AU-led Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.
