More than 40 Flights Cancelled Due to Fog at Wellington Airport

About 30 people were queuing at Wellington Airport on Tuesday afternoon after fog disrupted flights in the capital. Fog is causing disruption at Wellington Airport, with more than 40 flights affected on Tuesday.

A spokesperson for the airport said 48 flights had been cancelled due to fog. Flights leaving for Christchurch, Napier and Dunedin were among those cancelled, as well as flights arriving from Christchurch, Brisbane and Hamilton.

A RNZ reporter at the airport said a line of about 30 people were queuing at the Air New Zealand ticket sales and assistance desk. Passengers are advised to check directly with their airlines for the latest information on their travel plans.

Nicola shared her experience, saying her flight was rescheduled multiple times. She eventually found an alternative flight home to Hamilton the next day. Rhys also shared his story, having his flight to Nelson cancelled and redirected through Auckland, with a JetStar flight arranged for Wednesday.

Air New Zealand expressed appreciation for passengers' patience, while Jetstar confirmed no disruption to their services. Meteorologist Lewis Ferris provided insights into the weather conditions causing the fog, noting that it would lift overnight.
