Hong Kong’s largest electricity provider, CLP Power, is looking into a brief voltage dip that occurred in the New Territories. Dozens of residents were trapped in lifts after the incident on Friday evening.
Over 50 reports were made to the Fire Services Department between 6:30pm and 8pm, primarily from areas like Sha Tin and Ma On Shan. The power grid connecting these regions experienced a brief voltage dip at around 6:29pm.
While the main power supply remained intact, some residents noticed flickering lights and electrical installations may have temporarily ceased operation due to protective devices activating.
CLP Power stated that they are monitoring the situation and acknowledged that outages can happen due to unavoidable factors such as adverse weather, third-party damage, or equipment failure. The cause of the voltage dip is currently under investigation.
