Healthcare authorities in Hong Kong have reported a concerning case involving a one-year-old girl who may have suffered food poisoning after consuming Nestlé infant milk formula. The Centre for Food Safety has ordered the immediate removal of 390 cans of Aptamil Profutura DUO Advance 1 (800g) from shelves as part of expanding a citywide recall. A separate batch of Nestlé Nan INFINIPRO2 7HMO (800g), batch number 53070742F1, was previously recalled due to contamination concerns.
The scare is linked to the potential presence of cereulide, a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus, in the contaminated baby milk formula. Symptoms reported include persistent diarrhoea, which the child experienced shortly after consuming the formula. Fortunately, the child's health improved after her parents switched to an unaffected product.
