The presidential office of South Korea, Cheong Wa Dae, has expressed optimism that North Korea will react positively to the recent UN decision allowing sanctions exemptions on humanitarian aid projects.
The UNSC 1718 Committee reached an agreement on Thursday (local time) to exempt 17 humanitarian projects in North Korea, ensuring continued aid despite political tensions. This decision followed discussions where South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun requested U.S. support for the implementation of these projects.
Cheong Wa Dae highlighted that humanitarian assistance should remain unaffected by political circumstances, anticipating North Korea's positive response to international efforts aimed at improving its humanitarian situation and fostering peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula.
