UN and US condemn drone attacks on aid deliveries in famine-hit Sudan, calling them war crimes and demanding accountability.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan have been accused of carrying out drone attacks that targeted humanitarian aid convoys and fuel trucks in North Kordofan, resulting in civilian casualties. The United Nations and the United States strongly condemned these actions, calling them violations of international humanitarian law.
The attacks occurred in areas crucial for delivering food supplies to displaced communities facing severe famine conditions. The World Food Programme (WFP) reported that three trucks were struck in Er-Rahad, causing significant damage and loss of life. Additionally, the US government expressed zero tolerance towards such destruction of life and assistance efforts.
Denise Brown, the UN Resident Humanitarian Coordinator, emphasized that these attacks come after another drone strike earlier in the week on a WFP-related facility in Yabus, Blue Nile state, which injured an employee. The conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the RSF has intensified since October 2025, with el-Fasher falling to the RSF and numerous atrocities reported.
The situation in Sudan remains dire, with over 21 million people facing acute food insecurity. Tens of thousands have fled to neighbouring Chad, highlighting the urgent need for international intervention and measures to protect humanitarian workers and infrastructure.
