The Cook Islands has confirmed its first dengue-related death as the outbreak continues to grow. Over 500 cases have been reported since the outbreak began in May 2025, with New Zealand also seeing cases linked to travel from the islands. Health officials have initiated mosquito control efforts and public awareness campaigns to reduce the spread of the disease. Dengue is transmitted by mosquitoes and can cause severe symptoms including high fever, joint pain, skin rash, and lethargy. The elderly and young children are particularly at risk.
