Lebanese group accuses Israel of abducting leader in cross-border raid

A Lebanese group accuses Israel of abducting its leader during a cross-border raid in southern Lebanon, amid ongoing tensions and military operations.

Lebanese Group Accuses Israel of Abducting Leader

A Lebanese armed group has alleged that Israel abducted one of its members during a military operation in southern Lebanon. The incident, which occurred near the village of Hasbaiyya, involved Israeli forces entering the area early in the morning and taking Atwi Atwi from his home. Atwi, a former mayor of Hibbariyeh, is reportedly being held in an unknown location for questioning.

Israel has conducted several military operations in southern Lebanon despite a ceasefire agreed upon following the 2024 conflict with Hezbollah. The ceasefire required Israeli forces to withdraw from Lebanese territory, but there have been reports of ongoing violations and abductions of Lebanese citizens since then.

The al-Jamaa al-Islamiya, which has claimed responsibility for numerous attacks against Israel during the war with Hezbollah, strongly condemned the 'infiltration' as an act of aggression. They are demanding the immediate release of Atwi and have vowed to continue their resistance against Israeli occupation and violations.

Additionally, recent Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon have led to casualties, including a child, according to Lebanese media reports. These actions have heightened regional tensions and brought international attention to the ongoing conflict and human rights issues in the area.
