A family in Wellington narrowly escapes as a large slip threatens their home during heavy weather conditions.

A Father and His Kids Escape as Large Slip Threatens Home

Aaron Pahl, a resident of Stokes Valley, quickly evacuated his two children after noticing the ground beneath their home was slipping away during heavy rain and strong winds. The slip caused significant damage to their property, leaving the house uninhabitable. 'It felt like slow motion,' said Pahl, as he watched the bank slide down, taking with it part of his yard and a section of scaffolding.

‘I was looking from my path down at my backyard and I'm like 'something's not right here'.

The family only had time to grab a handful of personal belongings before they had to leave the property. Later in the day, they learned from a neighbour that council staff had been at the site and a dangerous building notice had been issued.

‘We’re now stuck waiting for insurance and possible repairs,’ said Pahl. The family is staying with his in-laws while they await further information on their next steps.

Pahls have spent considerable time and money renovating their home, and the damage has left them worried about their investments. 'Hopefully it's not all lost,' he said, but their situation remains uncertain as they navigate the aftermath of this disaster.
