Over 1,000 Kenyans Recruited to Fight for Russia in Ukraine War

A recent report by Kenya's National Intelligence Service revealed that over 1,000 Kenyan citizens have been recruited to fight on Russia's side in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. This number is far higher than initial estimates made by authorities.

The Russian embassy in Nairobi has denied any illegal recruitment practices, stating that foreign citizens may choose to volunteer for its armed forces. However, Kenyan lawmakers have identified a network of rogue state officials who reportedly collaborated with human trafficking syndicates to facilitate the recruitment process.

Recruiters targeted individuals including former soldiers and police officers, as well as unemployed citizens, promising financial incentives such as 350,000 shillings per month and potential bonuses. However, these individuals now face severe consequences on the Ukrainian front line, with 89 reported casualties, 39 hospitalized, and 28 missing in action.

Authorities are now investigating the matter to address the concerns raised by this alarming development.
