David Parish has pleaded guilty to manslaughter by reason of diminished responsibility following the death of Beryl Purdy in Broomfield, near Bridgwater, Somerset.
The Avon and Somerset Police investigated the incident, which involved Parish attacking Purdy with a golf umbrella.
The assault resulted in fatal head injuries for the victim.
