A Fire Broke Out at Cape Town International Airport

A fire erupted at Cape Town International Airport, leading to passenger evacuations and the temporary suspension of international flights before the situation was brought under control with no reported injuries. The incident occurred just days after plans were announced for a significant infrastructure upgrade at the airport, which handled over 11 million two-way passengers in 2025, including nearly 3.33 million international travelers.

Passengers were seen rushing out of the terminal as smoke filled the area and emergency sirens blared to alert them of the situation. The fire disrupted network and IT services, causing incoming international flights to be rerouted elsewhere. ACSA reported that international departures were temporarily halted, and incoming flights were diverted while the situation was managed.
