Argentina's President Javier Milei will receive the $1M Genesis Prize in Israel for his support. He'll donate it to Israel-Latin America relations.
Argentine President Javier Milei is set to visit Israel to accept the Genesis Prize, a prestigious $1 million award acknowledging his unwavering support for Israel.
Following a previously postponed trip, the award ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Knesset on June 11. During his visit, Milei will address the Israeli parliament.
Milei plans to donate the $1 million prize to launch an initiative aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations between Israel and Latin American countries. This initiative will also focus on combating antisemitism in the region.
The Genesis Prize organizers recognized Milei for reversing Argentina's historical anti-Israel voting record at the United Nations. His designation of Hamas and Hezbollah as terrorist organizations, along with his reopening investigations into the bombings of Jewish and Israeli targets in Argentina during the 1990s, were also factors in awarding the prize.
Milei has also pledged to move Argentina's embassy to Jerusalem, joining a select group of nations recognizing the contested city as Israel's capital. However, this move is not anticipated to occur during his current visit.
Previous recipients of the Genesis Prize include notable figures such as Michael Bloomberg, Michael Douglas, Barbra Streisand, and Steven Spielberg.
