A car crash injured at least 47 people during Liverpool's Premier League victory parade. Police arrested a suspect, and the incident is not terror-related.
On Monday, a vehicle drove into a crowd celebrating Liverpool's Premier League victory, resulting in injuries to at least 47 individuals, including four children. The incident took place at approximately 6 p.m. local time on Water Street, situated near the conclusion of the parade route.
Video footage depicted a dark-colored car swerving into the crowd and striking pedestrians. Bystanders immediately offered assistance to the injured, with some trapped beneath the vehicle. One person attempted to halt the vehicle, but the driver accelerated further into the crowd.
Merseyside Police have apprehended a 53-year-old British man from the Liverpool area, suspected to be the driver. According to authorities, the incident is not considered terrorism-related and is believed to be isolated. Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims stated, "We believe this to be an isolated incident and we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with it. The incident is not being treated as terrorism."
Out of the injured, 27 were admitted to hospitals, with two individuals, including a child, sustaining serious injuries. Twenty others received on-site treatment for minor injuries. A paramedic on a bicycle was also involved but remained unharmed. Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the scenes as "appalling," and Liverpool F.C. has pledged support to the emergency services.
