A grieving daughter has shared how her mother, Chantal McDonald, was brutally murdered by Nathan Boulter after she ended their relationship. Boulter, who has a history of violence and stalking, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a 17-year non-parole period for the July 2025 murder at her Christchurch home.
McDonald's daughter, whose identity remains private, described how the trauma has impacted her daily life, leaving her without a sense of security and direction. She revealed that she has sought professional counseling to cope with the distressing memories of the attack, which included more than 50 stab wounds.
Boulter, who had previously been jailed for eight years after kidnapping and assaulting an ex-girlfriend, continued his pattern of violence by harassing McDonald after she ended their relationship. He sent threatening messages and made multiple calls, eventually hiding outside her home and stabbing her to death as she returned with her children.
Justice Paulsen emphasized the callousness of Boulter's actions, stating that no prison term could truly make up for the loss of Chantal McDonald or ease the profound grief experienced by her family. The court also highlighted how Boulter's decision to appear via audio-visual link instead of in person added to the disappointment of those affected.
