A serious collision between an ambulance and an LPG delivery truck near Levin has left two individuals with life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred on State Highway 1, north of Levin, at 10:40 am. A St John's paramedic and a LPG driver were both transported to Palmerston North Hospital. St John's area manager Gareth Collings confirmed the rapid response unit was involved in the crash. Genesis Energy's Ed Hyde stated that one of their LPG drivers was involved. Workers at a nearby site reported seeing the St John vehicle with flashing lights before the crash. The crash caused significant delays in traffic with over 100 vehicles backed up before the cordon was lifted. The scene is currently being investigated by police, and St John is supporting the investigation. Both injured parties are in stable condition at the hospital. This incident highlights the dangers of emergency service workers operating on busy roads.
