Bobi Wine Speaks Out About His Escape

Bobi Wine, the Ugandan opposition leader, has revealed that he fled the country after the disputed January election, fearing for his life. In an interview with BBC, he claimed that the government was targeting him, and he has been in hiding for two months.

He accused the election of being rigged in favor of President Yoweri Museveni, who has been in power since 1986. Museveni won with 72% of the vote and allegedly ordered his son, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, to threaten Wine, even going so far as to suggest castration.

Wine, who denies any wrongdoing, has been sheltered by supporters and is now seeking international sanctions against Museveni. He expressed concerns for his family and party members still in Uganda. Wine's departure is described as brief, and he hopes to return.

His video on X called for targeted sanctions and detailed government actions against his supporters. Wine's lawyer has denied breaking the law, stating that running for president is not a crime.
