The Ukraine-Hungary Oil Pipeline Dispute

A political conflict between Ukraine and Hungary over the damaged oil pipeline is causing delays in a €90bn EU loan to Kyiv. The Druzhba pipeline, which transports Russian oil through Ukraine to Hungary and Slovakia, has been shut down since a Russian airstrike on Brody oil hub in western Ukraine, causing fuel supply issues for both countries. While Kyiv claims it needs six more weeks to repair the damage, Budapest accuses them of stalling for political reasons linked to their differing stance on Russia.

The EU has offered technical support and funding to help repair the pipeline, but Zelensky has shown reluctance, stating he wouldn't restore the pipeline due to its ties to Russian oil. Meanwhile, Hungary is now receiving alternative oil supplies from Norway, Saudi Arabia, and Libya via the Adria pipeline.

Note: This article focuses on the political aspects of the conflict and its impact on EU loan approvals.
