An attack on a hospital in Sudan's Darfur region killed 64 people, including 13 children, according to the WHO.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that an attack on Al Deain Teaching Hospital in Sudan's Darfur region resulted in the deaths of at least 64 people, including 13 children. This tragic incident occurred on Friday night, leaving the hospital's paediatric, maternity, and emergency departments severely damaged. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of WHO, mentioned that multiple patients, two female nurses, and one male doctor were also among those killed. Another 89 people, including eight health staff, sustained injuries.
According to Tedros, this attack brings the total number of fatalities linked to attacks on healthcare facilities during Sudan's conflict to over 2000. The conflict between Sudan's army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has been marked by widespread violence, with tens of thousands of people killed and more than 12 million displaced from their homes. Both sides have faced accusations of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
There is no immediate information about who was responsible for the attack. The RSF has been implicated in atrocities in Darfur, which UN experts say may amount to genocide. Tedros has called for an end to the conflict to protect civilians, health workers, and humanitarians.
