St Vincent investigates after 11 decomposed bodies washed ashore on Canouan. Passports suggest a West African link amid instability in Mali.
Authorities in St Vincent and the Grenadines have launched a major investigation after a vessel carrying the decomposed remains of at least 11 people washed ashore on the island of Canouan.
The Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) received a report about a suspicious vessel near Little Bay and Cherry Hill. Officers discovered the remains aboard the boat.
The bodies were in an advanced state of decomposition. Passports found on the vessel suggest a possible link to Mali in West Africa. The remains are being analyzed in Kingstown.
The RSVGPF is collaborating with regional and international partners to trace the boat's origin. This discovery comes amid growing instability in Mali, a country facing severe security and humanitarian crises.
The investigation aims to determine how long the vessel was at sea and what led to the tragic loss of life. The RSVGPF is committed to pursuing every lead.
