A devastating incident at Khanewal Junction railway station in Pakistan resulted in the death of a Pakistan Railways employee and injuries to a female passenger. The tragedy occurred when a section of a pedestrian bridge unexpectedly collapsed on Friday.

Bridge Collapse Details

According to reports from ARY News, a stone slab from the bridge gave way, striking individuals walking below. Emergency rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene, providing swift medical assistance and transporting the injured passenger to a nearby hospital.

Sadly, despite the prompt response, the railway employee could not be saved. Following the rescue operation, repair work commenced to address the damage to the footbridge. Preliminary investigations suggest that the falling stone slab was the direct cause of the accident.

A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways confirmed that train operations at Khanewal station were proceeding as usual, minimizing disruption to passenger services.

Eidul Adha Special Trains

In related news, Pakistan Railways has announced plans to operate five special trains across the country during Eidul Adha 2025. This initiative aims to manage the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the festive period. The special train services are scheduled to run between June 2nd and June 4th.

The first train will depart from Karachi Cantt to Lahore at 1:00 PM on June 2nd. The second will run from Quetta to Peshawar Cantt at 10:00 AM on June 3rd. On the same day, the third train will leave Lahore for Karachi Cantt at 5:00 PM. The fourth train is scheduled to depart from Karachi City to Rawalpindi at 8:00 PM on June 3rd. The fifth and final special service will leave Karachi Cantt for Lahore at 8:00 PM on June 4th.

The railway spokesperson clarified that the coaches for the first, second, and fourth trains would be sourced from carriage workshops, while the third and fifth trains would utilize existing rakes already prepared for Eid special services.
