Thousands of Afghans demonstrated nationwide against Israel's actions in Gaza, following a call from the Taliban authorities.
Following Friday prayers, large crowds gathered in multiple cities, waving Palestinian flags. Protesters expressed solidarity with Palestinians and condemned the actions of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
"We stand in solidarity with Gaza, showing the world they are not alone," said Jannat, a rally attendee in Kabul. "We defend oppressed Muslims everywhere."
The protests come amidst an ongoing conflict in Gaza. While Israel has eased its blockade, the region continues to face a dire humanitarian crisis, with warnings of widespread famine from the UN.
Taliban Prime Minister Hassan Akhund condemned Israel’s actions as "genocide" and expressed grave concerns. The Taliban government has consistently supported the Palestinian cause.
