Israel launched air strikes on Beirut, targeting Hezbollah drone production on the eve of Eid. The IDF claims Hezbollah violated agreements.
Israeli forces conducted multiple air strikes on southern Beirut, reportedly targeting Hezbollah's drone production facilities. The attack occurred on the eve of Eid Al Adha, a significant Islamic holiday. Prior to the strikes, evacuation warnings were issued in the Dahieh area of Beirut.
The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) stated that the strikes were aimed at a Hezbollah unit involved in producing "thousands" of drones, allegedly funded by "Iranian terrorists."
Lebanon's Prime Minister condemned the strikes, calling them a deliberate attack on the country's security and economy. The Lebanese President also criticized the action as a violation of international agreements.
The Israeli military defended the strikes, claiming that Hezbollah's extensive use of drones constituted a blatant violation of understandings between Israel and Lebanon.
Prior to the recent events, Israel and Hezbollah had engaged in prolonged cross-border hostilities. A ceasefire was established in late November, but tensions have persisted, with Israel conducting further strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. Hezbollah initiated its campaign the day following the Hamas attack on October 7.
