Israeli forces discovered a Hamas tunnel under a Gaza hospital, finding the body of Mohammed Sinwar and another commander. Weapons and documents were recovered.
The Israeli army has announced a significant discovery in southern Gaza: a Hamas tunnel network located beneath a hospital. The body of Mohammed Sinwar, a Hamas military chief, was recovered from this tunnel following a targeted operation.
The operation took place last month in Khan Younis. Alongside Mohammed Sinwar, Mohammad Shabana, a senior Hamas commander of the Rafah Brigade, was also found dead, along with other unidentified militants.
Brigadier General Effie Defrin, an IDF spokesperson, led a tour of the tunnel for foreign reporters. The tunnel was located beneath the European Hospital and served as a crucial command center for Hamas, including a compound of rooms under the emergency room.
During the search of the tunnel, Israeli forces recovered significant stockpiles of weapons, ammunition, cash, and documents. These materials are currently being reviewed for their intelligence value.
As of now, Hamas has not commented on the reports of the deaths of Mohammed Sinwar or Mohammad Shabana.
Mohammed Sinwar was the brother of Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’s late leader. Mohammad Shabana played a key role in the construction of the Rafah tunnel network, highlighting the strategic importance of this discovery.
