Malnourished Baby Siwar Evacuated from Gaza

Six-month-old Siwar Ashour, suffering from severe malnutrition due to the ongoing conflict and blockade in Gaza, has been evacuated to Jordan for urgent medical treatment.

Siwar's Plight

Weighing only 3kg (6.6lb), half of what she should, Siwar's condition highlights the devastating impact of the crisis on children in Gaza. Her mother, Najwa, expressed immense relief upon crossing the border into Jordan, finding solace in the relative quiet.

Evacuation and Hope

The evacuation, facilitated by a deal between King Abdullah and former US President Donald Trump, aims to provide care for 2000 seriously ill children from Gaza. Siwar's father, Saleh, blind and deeply worried, emphasized that his only goal was to ensure his daughter's safety and recovery. "The first and last goal of this trip is Siwar," said Saleh.

A Journey of Trauma

The family's journey from Gaza, marked by constant displacement and food shortages, underscores the communal trauma experienced by many. Despite the challenges, Siwar's family remains hopeful for her future as she receives specialized medical attention in Amman.

"It feels like there is a truce," Najwa told reporters upon arriving in Jordan.
