A British man survived the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, India. The Boeing 787 crashed after takeoff, killing all others onboard. Investigation ongoing.
Vishwashkumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old British man, has shared his incredible story of survival after the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, India. The Boeing 787, en route to London, tragically crashed shortly after takeoff, resulting in the death of all other passengers and crew, including 169 Indian and 52 British nationals.
From his hospital bed, Mr. Ramesh described the terrifying moments leading up to the crash. He recalled the lights inside the aircraft flickering immediately after takeoff. Within seconds, the plane felt like it was “stuck in the air” before it “suddenly slammed into a building and exploded.”
Despite the horrific circumstances, Mr. Ramesh managed to unbuckle himself and escape through an opening in the fuselage. “I managed to unbuckle myself, used my leg to push through that opening, and crawled out,” he recounted. He was seated in seat 11A, which, fortunately, landed near the ground, avoiding direct impact with the building.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the crash. One black box has been recovered from the crash site, which is expected to provide crucial information to investigators.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the crash site and met with Mr. Ramesh and the families of the victims. The Foreign Office is providing consular support to Mr. Ramesh and his family, who are seeking assistance to travel to India.
Mr. Ramesh, who was born in India but has resided in the UK since 2003, is married with a young son. His survival is considered a miracle amid the tragic loss of life.
