Members of the Royal Family, wearing black armbands, observed a minute of silence in memory of those who lost their lives. The gesture was made at the King's request.
The plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, heading towards London, claiming the lives of 241 passengers and 29 people on the ground. Among the passengers were 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, and citizens of Portugal and Canada.
As head of state of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, the King's tribute during the Trooping the Colour parade held particular significance. This ceremony marks the monarch's official birthday.
