India to Decide on Overseas Analysis of Air India Crash Flight Recorders Amid Safety Concerns

India's AAIB to decide on overseas analysis of Air India crash recorders after a deadly crash near Ahmedabad. Safety checks and flight reductions follow.

India Deciding on Overseas Analysis of Air India Crash Recorders

Following the tragic Air India crash near Ahmedabad, which claimed at least 270 lives, India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is deliberating whether to send the flight data and cockpit voice recorders overseas for analysis.

Investigation Status

Despite some reports suggesting the black boxes were already sent abroad, the Ministry of Civil Aviation clarified that no final decision has been made, emphasizing a thorough assessment of technical, safety, and security factors.

Recorders Recovered

Both Enhanced Airborne Flight Recorders (EAFRs) have been recovered from the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner wreckage. These recorders are crucial for reconstructing the flight's final moments and determining the cause of the incident.

Potential US Collaboration

Captain Kishore Chinta, a former AAIB investigator, suggested that sending one set of recorders to the US for comparison with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) could be beneficial to compare the data.

Air India's Response

Meanwhile, Air India has completed inspections on 26 of its Boeing 787 aircraft and announced flight reductions on 16 international routes and suspensions on three overseas destinations due to enhanced safety checks and airspace closures.
