A fire broke out in a Moscow apartment building after a reported Ukrainian drone strike. Two were injured and over 100 evacuated. Flights suspended.
A fire erupted in a multi-story residential building in Krasnogorsk, a suburb of Moscow, on Tuesday morning. Russian state news agency TASS reported that the blaze was allegedly caused by a Ukrainian drone strike. The Russian defense ministry claimed its air defenses intercepted 20 Ukrainian drones across several regions, including Moscow.
Two individuals sustained injuries during the incident, prompting the evacuation of over 100 residents, including 30 children. Videos circulating online showed substantial plumes of smoke billowing from the building.
Flight operations were briefly disrupted at Moscow's Vnukovo and Sheremetyevo airports but have since resumed. According to Moscow region governor Andrei Vorobyov, the drone impact ignited a fire on the 17th floor. Among the injured were a 34-year-old man with arm and leg wounds, and a pregnant woman who was hospitalized. Residents have since returned to their homes after firefighters contained the fire.
