Lufthansa Flight: Pilot Unconscious for 10 Minutes Mid-Air
In February 2024, a Lufthansa flight en route from Frankfurt, Germany, to Seville, Spain, faced a critical situation when a pilot became incapacitated for about 10 minutes.
Incident Details
The Airbus A321, carrying 199 passengers and six crew members, was under autopilot when the co-pilot lost consciousness. The captain, who had briefly left the cockpit, found himself locked out upon his return.
Response and Resolution
After failed attempts to enter using the standard security code, the captain initiated an emergency access code. Just before the override activated, the co-pilot regained consciousness and opened the door.
Aftermath
The co-pilot received medical attention from a passenger doctor, and the flight was diverted to Madrid for further care. Lufthansa has acknowledged the incident and is conducting an internal investigation.
