Harmeet Dhillon threatens a DOJ probe into Zohran Mamdani's 'tax the whites' proposal in NYC, alleging racial discrimination. Mamdani aims to reform property ta
Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon has raised the possibility of a DOJ investigation into Zohran Mamdani's tax proposal in New York City.
Dhillon argues that Mamdani's plan to shift the tax burden based on the racial makeup of neighborhoods constitutes illegal racial discrimination. "Racial discrimination is illegal in the United States – period. Full stop!", Dhillon stated.
Mamdani's proposal suggests lowering taxes in areas like Jamaica and Brownsville while increasing them in wealthier, predominantly white neighborhoods like those in Brooklyn, aiming to address imbalances in the property tax system. He believes this corrects unfair assessment caps that benefit expensive neighborhoods.
Dhillon, an Indian-American herself, emphasized that racial discrimination is illegal in the U.S. Mamdani, also of Indian origin, advocates for tax reform to correct what he sees as unfair assessment caps. This issue has gained attention following Mamdani's apparent victory in the New York Democratic primary, prompting strong reactions from Republicans.
