In a significant escalation, Russia launched a large-scale drone attack on Ukraine, marking one of the most extensive aerial assaults since the war's commencement. Ukrainian air defenses reported the deployment of 273 drones and decoys. While 88 drones were successfully intercepted, electronic interference neutralized 128 others.
The strikes impacted several regions, including Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk. Tragically, a 28-year-old woman was killed in the Kyiv region, as confirmed by Governor Mykola Kalashnyk. Additionally, three individuals, including a young child, sustained injuries.
This recent attack surpassed a previous record of 267 drones used by Russia. Concurrently, Russia's defense ministry claimed to have intercepted seven Ukrainian drones overnight, with an additional 14 downed on Sunday morning.
These incidents followed unsuccessful negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv. While Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposed direct talks in Turkey, Russian President Vladimir Putin declined a presidential-level meeting. US President Donald Trump has scheduled telephone conversations with both Putin and Zelenskyy, as well as NATO leadership, to discuss potential resolutions to the ongoing conflict.
