Dubai police arrested 15 for smuggling 50kg of drugs disguised as candy, valued at Dh2 million. The syndicate targeted youth on social media.
Dubai Police have successfully apprehended 15 individuals, a mix of ten men and five women, allegedly involved in a sophisticated drug syndicate. The group is accused of attempting to smuggle and distribute narcotic substances cleverly disguised as candy, targeting young people through social media platforms.
The operation resulted in the seizure of 50 kilograms of drugs and over 1,100 pieces of drug-laced sweets, with an estimated street value of Dh2 million (approximately $544,588 USD). The announcement was made during a press conference at Dubai Festival City.
Brigadier General Dr Abdul Rahman Sharaf Al-Maamari emphasized the group's use of social media to attract young consumers and urged families to be vigilant about their children's online activity.
Al-Maamari stressed that fighting drug crime requires community-wide participation. Dubai Police have expanded public awareness programs targeting students, parents, workers, and delivery drivers.
Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity through official channels, including the 901 call center, the Police Eye app, and the e-crime platform. Authorities assure confidentiality and offer immunity from prosecution for individuals seeking treatment.
Dubai Police employ a proactive strategy, continuously analyzing criminal patterns to design targeted campaigns and act early, rather than waiting for crises to emerge.
