Las Vegas Hit by Severe Dust Storm, Thousands Without Power
A strong dust storm caused significant disruption in Las Vegas on Tuesday, resulting in widespread power outages and damage to infrastructure.
Widespread Power Outages
Wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph damaged approximately 50 power poles across the Las Vegas valley. NV Energy reported that over 27,000 residents were affected by the outages. While power was restored to some, thousands remained without electricity well into the night.
Affected Areas and Road Closures
One of the hardest-hit areas was a one-mile section of Tropicana Avenue. The road was closed between Sandhill Road and Eastern Avenue due to extensive damage to 30 power poles.
Community Impact
The storm forced businesses to close and left many residents without power or air conditioning. Some were even unable to return to their homes due to the risk of downed power lines.
Long Repair Times
NV Energy has indicated that full repairs could take weeks, leaving residents and businesses bracing for prolonged disruption.
