A Delta Air Lines plane lost part of its wing flap mid-air but landed safely at Raleigh-Durham. The FAA is investigating the incident. No injuries reported.
A Delta Air Lines aircraft experienced a mid-flight incident on Tuesday when a portion of its wing flap detached during flight 3247 from Atlanta to Raleigh-Durham. The Boeing 737-900ER landed safely at Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) despite the damage.
The aircraft was carrying 109 passengers and six crew members. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. According to flight tracking data, the flight arrived approximately 55 minutes behind schedule. Delta Air Lines attributed the delay to adverse weather conditions, specifically thunderstorms in the area.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has launched a thorough investigation into the incident. They are working to determine the cause of the wing flap detachment and are also attempting to verify if a piece of aircraft debris found in Raleigh is connected to the missing wing component. Delta Air Lines has stated that they are fully cooperating with the investigation.
