Japan's Akuseki Island residents evacuated after over 1,000 earthquakes. No major damage was reported and the evacuation advisory was lifted.
Japanese authorities have urged the 89 residents of Akuseki Island to evacuate following a magnitude 5.5 earthquake. Akuseki Island is part of the Tokara island chain south of Kyushu.
The island has been rattled by over 1,000 earthquakes since June 21. A similar period of intense seismic activity occurred in Sept 2023.
While no major damage has been reported, the evacuation was a precautionary measure. After all residents were confirmed safe, the evacuation instruction was later lifted.
Meanwhile, in San Pedro Huamelula, Mexico, the mayor participated in a symbolic marriage with a caiman, a reptile resembling an alligator. This tradition, rooted in over 230 years of history, symbolizes the union of two indigenous cultures and is believed to bring prosperity to the community.
