Renowned Czech mountaineer, Klara Kolouchova, 46, has tragically died while climbing Nanga Parbat, also known as the "Killer Mountain."
The incident occurred on Thursday around 4 am near Camp I and Camp II on the 8,125-meter peak in the Diamer region of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). According to initial reports, she fell from a significant height.
Rescue teams have been dispatched and are currently working to recover her body from the fall site.
Kolouchova, who arrived in Pakistan on June 15 with her husband and team, was celebrated as the first Czech woman to summit Mt. Everest and K2. Her last Instagram post alluded to a previous attempt on Nanga Parbat.
The cause of the fall is currently unknown, but local media suggest a possible oxygen-cylinder explosion. Nanga Parbat has claimed the lives of over 95 mountaineers.
