Early Saturday morning, a mass shooting in downtown Indianapolis resulted in the deaths of two teenagers and injuries to five others. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is currently investigating the incident.
Police officers responded to reports of a disturbance near Washington and Meridian Street at approximately 1:27 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, they encountered active gunfire. A 16-year-old boy was found dead at the scene. Tragically, a 15-year-old boy later died from his injuries at a local hospital.
Five other victims were hospitalized following the shooting. Their ages are 16, 17, 19 (two individuals), and 21. As of now, no suspect has been identified, and the motive behind the shooting remains unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
Indianapolis Police Chief Chris Bailey voiced his deep concern and anger over the continuing violence. Mayor Joe Hogsett expressed his sympathy for the victims' families, emphasizing the need for preventative measures to avoid future tragedies. "Too many lives are being lost," Bailey stated. Hogsett added that "All of this is avoidable and preventable."
