Devastating Texas floods leave 78 dead and dozens missing, especially in Kerr County. Rescue efforts continue as more rain looms and communities rally.
At least 78 people have died and 41 remain missing in central Texas following devastating flash floods on Friday.
Kerr County was hit particularly hard, with 68 fatalities, including 28 children, at a riverside Christian girls' camp, Camp Mystic. Ten girls and a counsellor from the camp are still unaccounted for.
Authorities anticipate the death toll will rise as search and rescue efforts continue.
The region faces the threat of more storms in the coming days, potentially hindering rescue operations already complicated by treacherous conditions. The search has now shifted to a recovery phase. Identifying the recovered victims, including 18 adults and 10 children, is ongoing.
Governor Greg Abbott vowed to exhaust all resources to find the missing. President Trump has declared a major disaster for Kerr County, activating FEMA assistance.
Local communities are rallying to provide support, offering shelter and supplies to those affected by the disaster. Pope Leo XIV offered prayers for the bereaved in Texas.
