Texas ICE Agents Ambush: 10 Charged with Attempted Murder
Ten individuals are facing serious charges for their alleged involvement in an ambush targeting US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and other federal officers in Texas.
The Attack on Prairieland Detention Center
According to the Justice Department, the incident occurred outside the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado on July 4th. The accused are charged with shooting a police officer and firing at other correctional officers. Acting US Attorney Nancy Larson emphasized, "This was not a peaceful protest. This was an ambush on federal and local law enforcement officers.”
Details of the Ambush
The group, dressed in black military-style clothing, reportedly initiated the attack by shooting fireworks at the facility, which is used to detain individuals engaged in immigration violations. Some members of the group wore body armor and carried weapons and two-way radios.
The individuals charged include Cameron Arnold, Savannah Batten, Nathan Baumann, Zachary Evetts, Joy Gibson, Bradford Morris, Maricela Rueda, Seth Sikes, Elizabeth Soto, and Ines Soto. Three of the perpetrators face multiple counts of attempted murder of a federal officer and charges related to using a weapon during a violent crime.
Aftermath and Evidence
After gathering at the ICE facility, some individuals sprayed graffiti on vehicles and a guard post. When a responding Alvarado police officer exited his vehicle, he was allegedly shot in the neck by a suspect hiding nearby. Another attacker fired numerous rounds at unarmed correctional officers. The group then fled the scene.
Law enforcement discovered an AR-style rifle and a flag reading, “RESIST FASCISM-FIGHT OLIGARCHY,” along with other anti-government materials.
