Son of UK couple detained in Iran pleads for their release, asserting their innocence. They were arrested on espionage charges while touring. Limited contact wo
Joe Bennett, the son of Craig and Lindsay Foreman, a British couple detained in Iran on espionage charges, has passionately defended their innocence, insisting they are not criminals or spies, but simply tourists.
Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Bennett explained that his parents were arrested in January during a motorbike trip across the world. The family was informed of their detention weeks later and has since received minimal communication, including only a single letter from his mother and updates through welfare checks by UK embassy officials.
The family expressed deep concern, especially following the bombing of Evin prison, where the couple was scheduled to be transferred. Bennett also highlighted the terrifying period during the June conflict between Iran and Israel when the family had no idea if his parents were safe.
Despite concerns raised by family, the Foremans followed all official guidelines, including obtaining the right visas, traveling with licensed tour guides, and staying in approved accommodations. "They followed every guideline in the book they could… that clearly wasn't enough," said Bennett.
Bennett urged the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) to intervene and take direct action to secure his parents' release. An FCDO spokesperson stated that they continue to raise the case with Iranian authorities and are providing consular assistance to the family.
